Nigerian singer, Shallipopi, has vowed to boycott future editions of The Headies after having an embarrassing moment at the event.
Shallipopi, who lost the keenly contested Next Rated category to his frequent collaborator, Odumodublvck, thought he had gotten a consolation when his song ‘Cast’ was announced as the winner of the Best Rap Single of the Year.
However, on getting to the stage to receive his award, the presenter simply gave Shallipopi a handshake. The organisers reportedly ran out of award plaques midway through the ceremony.
Speaking about the embarrassing incident on his X page on Monday, Shallipopi vowed to boycott the award ceremony henceforth.

He claimed that he didn’t even want the award for the Best Rap Single as he doesn’t consider himself a rapper. He urged the organisers to give it to the “real rappers” in the category.
The music star wrote:
“The next one if una see me make I bend.
I nor go even lie for una sef, I nor want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category. Me, Shallipopi I nor be rapper.”
Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, accepted the prestigious Best Street Hop Song award on his behalf. She also delivered an emotional tribute to her late husband.
The award, which recognised Mohbad’s contribution to the music industry with his hit song ‘Ask About Me’, was accepted by Wunmi alongside their two-year-old son, Liam, Mohbad’s immediate younger brother, Adura, and the rest of the Imolenization family.
Expressing deep gratitude for the honour, Mohbad’s widow Wunmi, said,
“On behalf of myself, my son Liam, my husband’s immediate younger brother Adura, and the rest of the Imolenization family, we want to thank you for this award. Even though Mohbad is no longer here with us, he lives in us.”
“I don’t like referring to him as my late husband because he lives forever, especially through our son Liam. He may be too young to grasp the depth of his father’s greatness. But I know and believe that he would know one day. One day he’d know how his father’s voice manifests in people’s lives and how his voice brings joy and happiness to people,” she added.
