The Rivers State Police Command is investigating the assault of three friends and several others at the Black Box Club in Port Harcourt.

Here’s the backstory, for those that missed it:

On June 12th 2025, these three friends, Tonia Okoye, Juliet Obasi and Jennifer Nnochiri headed out for their friend’s pre-birthday hangout at Blackbox Night club in PH, where they had made a reservation earlier.

Unfortunately, the night ended in terror after a bloody altercation with Mr Maduba Okechi Christian the alleged Owner and CEO of Ceemore Group of Companies, along with his associates and Mobile Police (MOPOL)

Eyewitnesses said Mr. Maduba allegedly sat in the ladies’ reserved corner at black box club. To make matters worse, he got abusive and physical when one of them began making videos of herself dancing.

Things quickly got out of hand and they were beaten mercilessly.

The ex-boyfriend also revealed what he claimed to be the easiest way to get intimate with Okorie.

According to him, all it takes is a flashy car and some alcohol.

“If you wan chop grandma, jt get one nice car and rent one nice car and then get any type of alcohol,” he stated.

In April, Angela Okorie’s ex Oil money insulted and age-shamed her for calling him out on social media.

"Politicians Pay Billions to Get Voted"—Ali Baba Speaks

Veteran comedian Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, aka Ali Baba, has exposed the huge sum of money Nigerian politicians allegedly spend on winning each political seat.

Speaking in an interview on the OUTSIDE THE BOX podcast, Ali Baba, claimed that the price tag for a senatorial seat is N1.2 billion, while that of governorship requires up to N20 to N25 billion in some states.

He described Nigerian politics as a capital-intensive project that is driving corruption in the country.

"Politicians Pay Billions to Get Voted"—Ali Baba Speaks

The veteran comedian further accused Nigerian political leaders of ignoring the people’s needs and focusing only on projects that can provide money they can leverage during the election season.

“To win the senatorial seat is now between N1.2 billion. You need N1 or 2bn to win a Senate seat. To win a House of Representatives seat, you need another 1 1billion.

“State House of Assembly you need N500 million. Governorship depends on the state. For Delta State you need like about N20bn, for Rivers you need a 25 billion. For some of those states in the North maybe 4 or 5 or 6 billion naira.

“So it’s a capital intensive project, which is what is driving the corruption in our country right now. So anytime somebody is in office, the person is not thinking of education, except if whatever he wants to do in education will provide some money that they can leverage on when the time for election comes”, he disclosed.

In the interview, Ali Baba also revealed how he has met the wives of people he knows in compromising positions with powerful people, including governors.

He detailed his experience, drawing attention to the unscrupulous activities that go on behind the closed doors of society’s rich and powerful.

The comedian recounts a particular time when he met the wife of someone he knew at the governor’s house. He was having a meeting. He said the woman had walked out of the bedroom, but the governor had told her to return inside as he was not done with her.

Alibaba added that when he met the woman alongside her husband later, after their encounter at the Governor’s house, he acted like he hadn’t seen her in years. This reaction was well appreciated by the woman, who thanked him when it was just the two of them.

He recalled,

“I’ve been in the houses of a lot of big big men, Governors and the rest of them. And I see wives of a lot of people that I know coming to do things and I would greet, ‘how are you? How is everything?’

“And then those guys would do their philandering and tap her bum ‘come on go back inside I’m not finished with you’ and then she goes back inside. And then I run into her at an event in Lagos and the husband is saying ‘oh how are you, meet my wife’, I say ‘oh madam it’s a pleasure, I’ve not seen you in nearly five years, where have you been?’ and she’s like ‘I’ve been around, good to see you’ and then we’ll continue.

And maybe she sees me somewhere again, she calls me and says ‘Ali thanks’, I say ‘it’s okay’.”

Godwin Emefiele Forfeits 753 Duplexes- Largest Single Asset Recovery

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered over 753 duplexes linked to Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the EFCC, handed over the forfeited estate to Ahmed Dangiwa, the minister of housing and urban development, on Tuesday.

The uncompleted estate is located in the Lokogoma district of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A statement by Dangiwa said President Bola Tinubu had directed that the recovered estate be completed and made available to the Nigerian public through a “transparent and accountable” process.

Dangiwa said the ministry will ensure that all pending structures are completed to make the estate functional and suitable for habitation.

“As a next step, we will conduct a comprehensive integrity and structural assessment of all buildings and associated infrastructure to ensure safety and suitability for habitation,” the statement reads.

“We will also complete all outstanding infrastructure, including roads, drainage systems, and other essential amenities, to make the estate fully functional.

“Additionally, a standardised housing design framework will be developed to ensure architectural uniformity and provide guidance to prospective allottees.

“Finally, the housing units will be offered for sale through a transparent and competitive process, which will be widely advertised and managed via the Renewed Hope Portal.”

In December 2024, the anti-graft agency secured the final forfeiture of the estate following a ruling by Jude Onwegbuzie, a judge at the FCT High Court.

The EFCC had said that the forfeiture of the estate is the “largest single asset recovery” of the agency since it was set up in 2003.

The agency did not mention the name of the individual who forfeited the property, but mentioned that it belonged to a “former top brass of the government”.

However, in April 2025, Emefiele approached the FCT high court with an application seeking to reclaim the estate forfeited by the federal government.

The former CBN governor had sought an extension of time to apply to set aside the interim and final forfeiture orders made by the court in December 2024.

Emefiele had contended that the entire forfeiture process was conducted without his knowledge and alleged that the EFCC published the interim forfeiture notice in an “obscure” section of a newspaper, making it difficult for him to respond timely.

Onwegbuzie dismissed the application filed by Emefiele and held that section 17(2) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006 stipulates the notice requirements for forfeiture proceedings.

He rejected Emefiele’s claim that the publication was obscure, adding that the half-page notice in a national newspaper was sufficient and could not reasonably be described as “hidden”.

Official Lagos State Website | The best place to find government services and information

Lagosians will heave a huge sigh of relief soon as the Lagos State Government is finalising plans to introduce a monthly and quarterly rent payment system. This is aimed at easing the financial burden on low-income residents in the state.

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, disclosed at the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in office on Tuesday.

He said the initiative was part of broader efforts to make housing accessible and affordable for residents.

“That initiative was well-received, and its success encouraged us to explore new ways to reduce the pressure of yearly rent payment,” he said.

According to him, many tenants, particularly those with modest incomes, find it difficult to pay rent annually.

Akinderu-Fatai added that

“We believe that monthly or quarterly payment options will give people more breathing space and reduce the stress associated with sourcing lump sums.”

He noted that the government was currently engaging landlords, property developers and other key players in the real estate sector to understand the challenges and fine-tune the policy before rolling it out.

He said “Of course, there are issues to resolve — things like landlord cooperation, payment tracking and enforcement. But discussions are ongoing, and we are listening to all sides.”

The commissioner added that the government was fully committed to the plan, working diligently to implement a pilot phase in selected areas of the state.

“This is not just policy on paper. We are making real progress. We know what this means for many families, and we are determined to make it happen,” he said.

Netizens Dig Up Photos of Pope Leo X1V Visit to Nigeria In 2016

Do you know that Pope Leo XIV visited Nigeria in 2016? Well, long before he was elected pope of the Catholic Church, Robert Prevost was in Nigeria on a visit.

The world’s 267th Pope visited Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, almost a decade ago as part of his duties as an Augustinian leader, engaging with members of the order and the broader Catholic community.

A photo posted on his X account showed him posing with Catholic leaders — some believed to have accompanied him from abroad, while others were Nigerian clergy dressed in black and white cassocks.

“For the first time, General Chapter of the Order of St. Augustine on the African continent — Abuja, Nigeria,” the post which was translated from Spanish to English, reads.

The photo was dated September 29, 2016. At the time, Leo was Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru.

The Order emphasises community life, interior search for God, and service to others, following in the footsteps of St. Augustine, who harped on unity of mind and heart for the glory of God.

Before he was made bishop, Prevost served as Provincial of the Augustinian Province in Chicago from 1999-2001, and later served two terms as Prior General of the Order of Saint Augustine from 2001-2013.

The last papal visit to Nigeria was by Pope John Paul II in 1998, who also visited the country in 1982.

Pope Francis, Leo’s predecessor, limited his African trips to Kenya, Uganda, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu congratulated Leo on his election as the Bishop of Rome.

Tinubu, who rejoiced with Nigerian Catholics, said the new pope’s message of faith and hope resonates across the globe.

United States Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected the 267th pope. He’s now known as Pope Leo XIV.

He stepped onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica as the new leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.

Prevost, 69, from Chicago, Illinois, is the first ever pope from the United States.

In his first words as pope, a visibly emotional Leo said to the crowd in St. Peter’s Square: “Peace be with you all.”

Addressing the crowd in St. Peter’s Square, Leo paid tribute to the late pontiff Francis, urging the crowd to remember his predecessor’s legacy before outlining his vision for the Catholic Church.

“We have to seek together to be a missionary church. A church that builds bridges and dialogue,” he said. Speaking in Italian to thousands of Catholic faithful, Leo called on people to “show our charity” to others “and be in dialog with love.”

Leo was chosen just two days after a group of 133 Cardinals gathered in conclave to select a new pontiff.

That timeline matches the previous two gatherings, suggesting that Prevost quickly impressed his peers during the secretive process.

Francis and Benedict XVI were both revealed on the evening of the conclave’s second day, while John Paul II, the longest-reigning pope of modern times, was selected on the third day in 1978.

Prevost earned his bachelor’s in mathematics from Villanova University in Pennsylvania and went on to receive his diploma in theology from the Catholic Theological Union of Chicago.

He was later sent to Rome to study canon law at the Pontifical Saint Thomas Aquinas University and was ordained as a priest in June 1982. Later in his career, he taught canon law in the seminary in Trujillo, Peru.

In an interview with Vatican News shortly after he became the leader of the Dicastery for Bishops, Pope Leo XIV said:

“I still consider myself a missionary. My vocation, like that of every Christian, is to be a missionary, to proclaim the Gospel wherever one is.”

Pilot Error and Negligence Caused Crash That Killed Herbert Wigwe- Report Reveals

Things You Probably Didn't Know About Late Access Bank GMD Herbert Wigwe

Investigators have revealed the situation that led to the helicopter crash, which killed Herbert Wigwe. The report blames the pilot’s spatial disorientation and the company’s negligence.

The United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its final report on the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, his wife, his son, and his friend Abimbola Ogunbanjo, concluding that the accident was primarily caused by pilot error and inadequate company oversight.

In the investigation report, the NTSB determined that the crash resulted from “the pilot’s decision to continue the visual flight rules flight into instrument meteorological conditions, which resulted in the pilot’s spatial disorientation and loss of control.”

The crash occurred on February 9, 2024, near the California-Nevada border, involving a helicopter registered as N130CZ. The incident killed all six occupants, including Wigwe, the former group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc; his wife, Doreen; their first son, Chizi; and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc.

According to the NTSB, the pilot “likely experienced spatial disorientation while manoeuvring the helicopter in IMC, which led to his loss of helicopter control and the resulting collision with terrain.”

The report also cited “the company’s inadequate oversight of its safety management processes” as a contributing factor. Specifically, it noted that the helicopter operator failed to ensure pilots were accurately completing flight risk analyses, logging maintenance discrepancies, and adhering to Part 135 flight regulations.

Pilot Error and Negligence Caused Crash That Killed Herbert Wigwe- Report Reveals

The report revealed critical lapses in maintenance communication before the crash.

During the return flight, the pilot texted the director of maintenance (DOM) about the issue. After arriving at the company’s flight operations base, the pilot discussed the issue with the company flight follower (who was also the company’s president). A company mechanic performed some troubleshooting on the radar altimeter; however, he was unable to rectify the issue, and the radar altimeter remained non-functional,” the report stated.

It further disclosed that

“The mechanic reported that the pilot and the DOM were aware that the radar altimeter was not functioning, yet they departed at 1822 on the positioning flight to pick up the passengers.”

“About 40 minutes later, the positioning flight landed at the airport to pick up the charter passengers. After arrival, the pilot and flight follower had a phone conversation and exchanged text messages, but they did not discuss the status of the radar altimeter or weather conditions.”

The NTSB concluded that poor judgment in continuing the flight under deteriorating weather conditions, along with the operator’s failure to enforce critical safety protocols, ultimately led to the fatal crash.
